Gerontology Student Organization

The Gerontology Graduate Student Organization (GSO) is a student run group that seeks to help integrate gerontology graduate students into the Department and the profession of Gerontology. More specifically, the purpose of the Gerontology Student Organization is to promote understanding of a broad range of aging and social policy issues and create a forum for students to get to know each other, network professionally, and build support systems within the University.

The activities of the group are funded by the Graduate Student Assembly of University of Massachusetts Boston. Each year students in the Program elect the GSO officers and decide as a group what activities or events will be undertaken. Membership is open to all Gerontology graduate students currently enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Examples of events include a public presentation of how to construct posters for present research results at professional meetings. Social events include a welcoming party for new students, a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts to view the Ansel Adams exhibit, and a "Game Night" to provide a time for rest and relaxation during the otherwise busy semester.

The president for the academic year 07-08 is Kaori Mitsui.
