Brief Description:

This research tested whether modeling (a powerful tool for behavioral change) in the form of a video could increase awareness and encourage utilization of vehicle modifications among drivers age 70 and older. It also looked at what steps the participants had taken since viewing the video toward using the demonstrated features, all of which were low-tech and most of which were low-cost. Information was also collected on the participants' driving histories, concerns about driving, and personal driving restrictions.

The 22-minute video, entitled "Keeping Moving Longer: Features for Safe Driving," was completed in March 2004. The following Councils on Aging participated as research sites by recruiting drivers age 70 and older to view the video during March through May 2004: Woburn, Sharon, Milton, Norwood, Millis, Bedford, and Pembroke. The study was completed in January 2005.
